On above accounts being brought up some discussion ensued with regard to the printing account, the greater portion of which was for work done previous to 'he present Council taking office. Cr Macdonald said there might be a reason for not sending in the account earlier, but he thought it was a great shame that liabilities incurred nearly two years ago by previous Council should be saddle 1 on the present one. In this manner they had paid a large sum for legal expense, interest, &c, which were absorbing mnney that should be spent for urgent works required. He was of opinion that accounts should be sent in at least every three months. Cr Matheson and others coincided in above remarks, after which the accounts as read were passed for payment. Tenders were opened for culvert, &c, on Gorge Road, and that of P. Waldemann for £3 was accepted. Gravelling and forming Shotover-street W. Murrish's tender being the lowest (£25) it was accepted. Gravelling Camp-street—W. Murrish, Is 3d a yard being lower than the other tenderers, the work fell to him. Ordered that the Town Clerk make out list of items for which he receives commission, and the rate of commission on each item. The Mayor reported the result of the interview with Mr Larnach, Minister for Public Works, a full report of which appeared in our issue of last week.
