Terms of peace are said to be accepted by Turkey, but Sir Northcote, in the House of Commons, said that they wore of such a sweeping nature that they cannot be acknowledged without a European conference; and that Austria agrees with England that the conditions destroyed the keystone of south-eastern Europe. He further said that a separate treaty between Turkey and Russia was inadmissable ; that, the British fleet had entered the Dardanelles, but withdrew on Russia consenting to a Conference on the question of the Straits. The French and Italian squadrons have been despatched to the Levant. The Russians continue advancing and have occupied Rodesto and Chortz, fifty miles from Constantinople. The Turks are being beaten everywhere by the Russians and Servians. They have evacuated Silistria and Rustehutz and Erzeroum. Russia has accepted Austria's proposal for a Conference.
