THE CAMP RESERVE SALE.

TO TBI IDIXOft OF Lill WA.XATIP KAIL. Sib, —In your issue of the sth there appeared a letter signed "A Deluded Taxpayer," commenting severely on the action of the Govern* ment in allowing Mr Worthington to get the land hishouse stands on, with other land adjacent, as well as the house itself, under cover of a valuation of £3O. Had it not been that I think there must be something more than appears on the face of Taxpayer's letter that could induce him to write such a tissue of falsehoods, I should mot have noticed his production. If, however, I am mistaken in my surmise, and Taxpayer actually believed he was writing truth, he will thank me for correcting him. To be brief, about six weeks ago I was requested by the Government to value that portion of Mr Worthington's house formerly used as the Gold Receiver's office. I did so, the result being a valuation of £3O, an amount I am quite prepared to state is a fair one. As regards the land referred to, all the Government resolved to do, to my knowledge, was to have the land applied for, surveyed, and a report sent down to the Waste Lands Board upon it The other buildings, erected by Mr Worthington at his own cost, also to be valued when the lot should be put up to auction. I shall not refer to the other parts of Taxpayer's letter as they are foreign to the case under notice, and I think I have already written sufficient to ease the heartburning (unless it be a very severe attack) which "Deluded Taxpayer" says he is suffering from. _ -.j. I will now add in my unknown friend s language, that I for one protest, and will do all I can to burke impressions that reflect no credit upon those who endeavor to create them, and only give us another instance of the abuse that the system of anonymous newspaper writing may be put to. —I am, yours <fcc., Geobgb Clayton. Queenstown, July 12th, 1871.
