Mr Ross, hon. treasurer, stated that when above accounts were paid, the assets of the Institution would be about £250, including the Government subsidy still due. Letters were read and received —From C. E. Haughton, Esq., stating that Government would consider the question of a subsidy for Water Supply to the Hospital, but he did not thiuk there would be funds available for the purpose this year. From the Under Secretary, stating that he regretted the Government did not see its way clear to placing a sum on the Estimates towards assisting in the Water Supply to the Institution. Dr Douglas stated the Hospital had been asain short of rain water during the late frosts. The Committee thought it was not fair that one of the Resident Surgeon's horses should be used for the purpose of sleighing water from the Lake ; and after considerable discussion, and various suggestions had been made, Messrs Boyes and Ross proposed a resolution (afterwards withdrawn) to the effect that tenders be called for supplying the Hospital with a permanent supply of water —not less than 300 gallons daily —tenders to state plan intended to be adopted. Ultimately, it was Proposed by Mr Boyes, seconded by Mr M'Conochie, and carried—That tenders are required for sinking the well at the Frankton Hospital to a sufficient depth to ensure a permanent supply of water —the well to be bricked from top to bottom, as per specifications, which may be seen at the Bank of New Zealand, on and after 10th July; tenders to be sent in on or before Friday the 4th August next. Mr Mackay stated that he had consulted Mr Alloo as to Ah Foo collecting subscriptions from the Chinese in surrounding districts ; and that the former had informed him it would be of little use for Ah Foo to canvass unless some well-known European ■accompanied him, as the Chinese had so little faith in each other. The matter was not dealt with, and the meeting broke up with a vote of thanks to the Chair.
