AJOJtOA. A apectal meeting' of the Akaroa. County Council TV&3 held at Duvaucbolle on Thuras day; present—Messrs E. Hay, C. B. Thacker* X. Stewart .and B. A. Pottigreyr. In the absence of the chairman (Mr J. It. Thacker), Mr E. Hay presided. Tho cleric .reported that the Joan- propoaal had been carried by SB votes to 7. Messrs Meares and Williams wrote, forwarding ihe several resolutions to be passed authorising the levy of fl* special rate of onefortieth: of a, penny. Mr (!. B. Thacker moved the resolution regarding the rate, and it was carried.

It was agreed to held a. special meeting on January 22 to confirm the resolution passed, also that the Public Trustee should act as Commissioner for the sinking fund. The ordinary mooting was then held, Mr J. .It. Thacker presiding. ■ A motion of sympathy with Mrs Sheofoerd in her recent berearwsmenfc • was passed, all present standing. '.Clio ranger submitted a list of •porffoha' having cat-tie at large. It decided' to prosecute two of the offenders. Tho Hew Zealand Beturned Soldier*’ Association wrote, inquiring as to suitable land for settlement. It was decided to report on several properties to be sold shortly. The Department of I’oblic Health, wrote regarding the new Health. Bill. The matter was held over until next meeting. The engineer reported on the work done by the crasher dining the past month, ami tendered llis resignation after seventeen vaaiV service with the ' council. ■ The resignation was accepted with regret, and .*■ motion of appreciation, of the engineer's (Mr Brown) woifk during the past seventeen years wan passed. The chairman reported interviewing the Halswell County Council concerning damage done; to the road by the Akaroa. County} Council's crusher. The clerk reported that the Pigeon 'Bat metal had cost 3s 7Jd per yard; wages were now 2s 6d per yard. . ' .. Mr Pettigrew reported on repairs necessary for the Onawe wharf.
