MEAT INDUSTRY.
INDUSTRIAL DISPUTE SETTLED. News lias been received in Christchurch that the dispute between the Freezing Works’ and Related Trades Federation and the Associated Meat Companies of New Zealand has been settled. The companies, in conference, offered the employees 20 per cent indense for pisoo workers find pci cent for hourly and weekly hands, on the award dated August 1, 1919. The employees demanded 2s 3d to 2s od an hoar. „ „ _ Air F. C. Ellis, secretary of the Canterbury Union received the news yesterday that tho dispute has been settled at 20 per increase for piece, workers and 25 per cent for hourly and weekly ihands. The following are details of the increases, which will be retrospective to November I—Slaughtering sheep, 42s a hundred; slaughtering lambs, 39s a. hundred; pullers, B£<! to IOJd a dozen; freezing chamber hands, classers, and curers, 2s 3Jd, second preservers, skin-washers and trimmers, 2s 3d; manure, oleo, and slaughtermen’s assistants, firemen, grfiasers, and other labourers, 2s 2fd. North Island companies had arranged to begin this season's operations from November 20 to December 4. None, on account of the dispute, has begun, but it is expected now that all will begin this week.
RESUMPTION OF WORK AT AUCKLAND. [Per Press Association.] AUCKLAND, December 29. In consequence of the settlement of tho freezing dispute, slaughtering will commence next week. Work will begin at Horotiu on Tuesday, and at Southdown on Wednesday.
