COUNTY COUNCILS.

SPRINGS. The monthly meeting of tho Springs County Council took place on Thursday; present—Messrs C. Wolfe (chairman), J, S. Simpson, A. Thompson, J. H. Williams, E. Yarr and John Stalker. A notification from the Defence Department stated that two captured machine-guns, Hotchkiss type, were being sent to the council. It was decided to write for some further information in regard to these guns. Messrs Harman and Stevens sent & copy of the plan of land proposed to bo purchased for a gravel-pit at Lincoln. The Hon J. G. Coates, Minister of Publio Works, acknowledged a letter from the council with reepoot to the Motukarara bridge. He bad noted the representations made concerning the bridge. The Paparua County Council wrote that the matter of repairing the approaches to bridges on the Main South Road had received attention. The Canterbury Automobile Association applied' for a contribution towards the cost of repairing tho ford in line with the Main South Road. It was decided to contribute one-quarter of tho cost if tho Ellesmere County Council would do likewise. In his monthly report the surveyor stated that the teams had been doing road repairs in Greenparh riding, Leeston Road Day?» Road and Goulds Road. Ellesmera Road was now being repaired, and the bridge on Half-chain Road was being attended to. This bridge was in a worse condition than had been anticipated. The alterations to the etonebreaker plant were not yet completed. A shingle pit was nodded in one of the Plantation Board's reserves near Norwood. The bottom end of the river had been cleaned. The weed-cutting launch was ready for overhauling and painting. The surveyor reported on a request for a footpath by the Springston South School. It was decided to spend £ls in constructing a footpath from tho proposed hall entrance to the store. The surveyor reported that little progress had been mado with gorse-cleaning on roads by numerous occupiers who had been notified. The clerk and stirveyor were voted a, bonus.. Very appreciative references to their work were made. Mr Williams asked that attention be given to the flooding raco on Rolleston-Lin-coln Road.
