A JUDICIAL DECISION. By Telegraph—i'reas Association—Copyright. Australian and N.Z. Cable Association. (Received November 28, 6.6 p.m.) LONDON, November 26. Mr Justice Rowlatt, in the King's Bench, decided that under the Gaming Act bets made by cheque are recoverable. The matter will be pursued to the highest courts. Bookmakers declare that if the decision should be upheld it will involve millions of pounds. Already some people have taken steps to recover losses. It is stated that a member of the Victoria Club has received a demand for £19,000. The Official Receiver has begun to intervene for the benefit of creditors in a bankrupt estate. TrUst-ees and others are similarly acting. An official of the Victoria Club declared that as it was presumable the decision applied to all bets made during the period allowed by the Statute of Limitations many bookmakers would bo ruined unless they are able to recover punters' winnings. The decision cut both ways, bnt chaos would result.
