Giving evidence before a Select Committee on Agriculture, the French bacteriologist, Francis Ray, representative of the Pasteur Institute, said that ho could have combated the recent plague of mice with a virus, which is on sale in France. The virus produced a disease in rats and mice which killed them in from eight to fourteen days. He also claimed that he could successfully inoculate pigs against hog cholera and swine fever. The Royal Commission inquiring into parliamentarians’ salaries recommends that they should lie increased to £BSO yearly for ordinary members and £ISOO for Ministers, with the exceptions of the Chief Secretary and Attorney-Gen-eral, whose salaries should be'increased to £IBOO, and the Premier, £2500.
