ARCHBISHOP MANNIX.

SPEECHES IN ENGLAND. By Telegraph—Preen Association—Copyright, Australian and N.Z. Cable Association.

LONDON, November 24. Archbishop Mannix has addressed numerous meetings in the provinces, traversing familiar grounds. He allowed British misrule in Ireland, and made a plea for self-determination and the withdrawal of the troops, but the London newspapers rarely notice him. His only London gathering was at the bishop of .Portsmouth's semi-pßivate reception, and this was but. briefly reported in London. The bitterness of Archbishop Mannix's speeches indicates the keenness of his disappointment at his treatment in England. Tho Australian Press Association learns that Air Lloyd George was agreeably surprised at the conciliatory nature of one of Archbishop Mannix's speeches, in which ho urged the Government to make Ireland a friendly ally by conceding the right of self-govern-ment.

Archbishop Mannix has not yet decided when ho will visit Rome, and has not made arrangements to return to Australia. Father Vaughan, his secretary, spent soveral weeks in Ireland. (Received November 25, 5.5 p.m.)

LONDON, November 24. Irishmen at Rochdale had arranged a big reception to Archbishop Mannix tonight, but a torchlight procession and overflow meeting were abandoned owing to polico intervention, and a single meeting will bo held.
