CHRISTCHURCH. Mr V. G. Day, S.M., presided ov 0 f the sitting of the Magistrate's Cour* yesterday. Two first offenders for drunkenness were each fined ss, in default twentyfour hours' imprisonment. May Houston, alias Dransfield, alias Blanch Grieves, charged with escaping on June 10 from the Salvation Army Rescue Home, to which she had wen committed for drunkenness, pleaded guilty, and was fined £l, in default forty-eight hours' imprisonment, on the original charge. , Judgment was given for the plaintifl in a ciaim by J. Spencer Daniel, medical practitioner (Mr P. J. Amodeo), against J. M. Thomson for the sum of £3 Gs, balance of moneys due for professional attendance. Clements £1 Is; Dalgety and Co., Ltd., y. J. W. Comyna, £3O 7s 2d. LYTTELTON. Captain R. Hatchwell, J.P., and Mi W. C. Cleary, J.P., presided at a sitting of the Magistrate's Court at Lytteiton yesterday. Allen Fraser M'Donald appeared on a charge that he did assault Robert King, so as to cause him actual bodily harm. The police stated that the was an indictable one, but they considered that the Bench might reduce it to one of common assault after hearing the medical evidence. The accused is the second cook on the s.s Wairuna, and it is alleged that in a row with _ the first cook, he hit bim -with a meat saw across tho left arm, inflicting a wound. Dr Gilmore called, stated that the wound was two inches long and three-quarters of an inch deep, which he had fouad necessary to stitch. He did not think any permanent injury would result. Tcr the Bench: Ho could not say whether blood-poisoning would set in until about forty liours after the wound had been Inflicted. The Bench decided to remand the case until the following; day. Edward Hart, a steward off the Ze'alandic, eighteen years of age, wag charged that he did wilfully dan-age onq pane of glass, valued at £2 the property of Horace Webb, licensee of the British Hotel. The Bench imposed a fine of £2, and ordered accused to pay the cost of the damage done, m default fourteen days' imprisonment.
