Under Commissioned-Gunner D. P. J. From two to six men were carried in each car. _ The marshalling was done by the president (Mr J. S- Hawkes), the secretary (Mr C W. Hervey), and members of the Automobile Council. A feature of th«i departure was the orderly succession of the cars as they drove out of Worcester Street with Mr J. S. Hawkes at the head of the procession. There were exactly fifty cars and twenty-three motorcycles and side-chairs. The route taken was via Riccarion, Prebbleton and Tai Tapu, and owing to tho small amount of dust on the road the trip was most enjoyable. The passing of tho long procession brought the inmates of the houses on the road to tho gates, where they heartily cheered, and were cheered by, the bluejackets. Motuarara was reached in good time for lunch, and an excellent one, botli in quantity and quality, was provided by tho Automobile Association, after-dinner cigarettes also being handed round. During tho afternoon a lengthy sports programme was carried out, in wliich the guests enjoyed themselves to the full, the motor-cycle races being rather a novelty, especially to those who took part as passengers. Tea was available during the major portion of the afternoon, and the sports were concluded at 4.30 o'clock. After hearty cheers had been given for the entertainers, a start Was made on the return journey, which was without incident except for groups of cheering children by the wayside, and the bluejackets reached Christchurch aovd the end of a perfect outing at six o'clock.
