INDUSTRIAL ASSOCIATION.

MEETING OP EXECUTIVE. The executive of the Canterbury Industrial Association met last night; present—Messrs W. J. Jenkiu (president), A. F. Drayton, P. H. Goodeir, J. Black E. 11, Wyles, C. B. Bowie, H. Bradley, G.White, H. Willis, 0. von fe'ierakowski and It. H. Wilson.

Mr Drayton said that there should be uniformity in the city in regard to annual holidays. Stock agents had their holidays at one time, the .hardware tradespeople at anothor time, the drapers at still another time, and so on. He moved that the president fftid Messrs Wyle,3 and Bowie should bo appointed delegates to a meeting of representatives of different organisations to consider the subject. The motion was seconded by Mr Wyles and carried.

Tho secretary (Mr J. B. Laurenson) reported that the annual Industrial Conference would be held in Dunediu on February •1, S and 6, and that Dunedin residents would make an effort to have an important gathering. Remits from Canterbury hud been drawn up. Messrs J. A. Frostick, W. W. Charters, Wyles and White and tho secretary were appointed delegates to the conference. Mr Willis moved:—(l) "That a previous resolution deferring the adoption of constitution and rules should be rescinded. (2) That the constitution and rules as submitted to the executive by the special committee appointed for tho purposo should bo adopted. (3) That, the committee appointed to assist Mr G. T. Booth in writing a short history of tho association, as a, prefaco to the book of rules, should be empowered to go on with the printing as soon aa possible." Mr Brcdley seconded the motion, which *3s carried.

Mr Drayton brought up the question of extending tho association's activities. He said that tho association ehould be a live organisation. Mr Willis said thtt the association should urge tho establishment of a department of commerce and industries. Mr Drayton said that lectures on local industries could bo arranged for.« Pumps were being made in Christchurch that were a rredit to tho city. Tho maker of them njight be invited to meet members of tho association and explain tho development of his work.

The president EBid that theTo were important industries in Christchurch of which members of the association knew nothing.

Mr Wyles said that industries were so important to New Zealand that a separate portfolio should be established for them. He gavo notice to move that a standing committee should bo appointed to attend to industrial affairs and to work in co-opera.tion with the Chamber of Commerce.

MV G. AVhite said that tho moving picture principlo should bo used as an educational force in connection with industrial life.

The secretary read a letter from the High Commissioner, enclosing a, communication from tho Trades and Industries Committee of tho Boyal Colonial Institute, doaling with the question of training students by manufacturers in the Old Country. In view of the importance of tho question, it was decided to supply members of the executive with copies of tho letter and to discuss it at Jiext meeting,, Mr A. W. Jamieson wroto resigning as a member of tho executive.

On the motion of Mr Goodsir, seconded by Mr White, the resignation was accepted with regret.
