NEWS AND NOTES. Acceptances for the Wellington Racing Club's summer meeting are due tonight. A cable message from Sydney states that the racehorses Grenides and Neglige© have arrived by the Maheno. Rearguard, 12 yards bebindj was omitted from the Electric Handicap at the Wellington Trotting Club'ft meeting. Entries for the inaugural meeting of the Methven Trotting Club will close with the secretary to-morrow at 8 p.m. The handicaps will be declared on January 18. A meeting of stewards of the Cheviot Racing Club was held on Safrorday afternoon, Mr G. L. Rutherford (president) being in the chair. The programme was considered, and an amount of £720 was allocated in stakes, including a cup valued at 25 guineas, presented by Mr Rutherfod. Messrs Hardie and Thomson wrote accepting a contract for grandstand and totali&ator house, and it was decided to have tho buildings completed as soon as possible. METHVEN TROTTING CLUB. A" meeting of tho General Committee of tho Methven Trotting Club wae held on Saturday evening. The president, Mr "W. Buchan, presided over a full attendance of the committee. The secretary reported that donations towards the prizo money had reached £2OO. A letter was received from the Railway Department agreeing to run a special train for the meeting. Tho offer of Messrs Aspoll and Owen to conduct the liquor booth in aid of tho club's funds was iacceptod with thanks. Matters in connection with tho refreshment booth wore left in the hands of Messrs Henderson Bros. Tho secretary was authorisd to secure the services of a band. The president, in concluding the mooting, stated thai it was a pleasing fact that no official would be paid at tho meeting, all having volunteered their services gratis.
