CITY ELECTRICAL ENGINEER RESIGNS. MANAGER OX) BE APPOINTED. The Electricity Committee reported" last night that it had gone further into the question of tho appointment of a general manager for the electricity department, and was preparing a schedule of duties under which ho would exercise full control of the department, subject to the direction of the Electricity Committee and tho Town Clerk, as already decided by the council. The salary fixed by iue committee was £750 per annum, and authority to invite applications for the position wa% required. The committee also reported that Mr E. E. Stark, city electrical engineer, had resigned his position, to take effect from March 31, 1920, by which time Mr Lythgoe, assistant engineer, would have returned to duty. Mr Stark asked that the council should grant him three months' leave from March 31 next. Tho committee recommended that the salary of tho engineer to bo appointed under the now arrangement should be £550 per annum. In the course of a brief discussion, it was stated that Mr Stark would no'fc have been averse to remaining on the staff if permitted to undertake consulting work. Councillor H. F. Herbert asked whether it was possible that Mr Stark’s services would be retained for the city. Tho Mayor replied that this was. quite possible. The report was adopted
