MISHAP TO KAHU.

LEAK EXTINGUISHES FERES. VESSEL BEACHED AT CHATHAMS. [Phb Pbbss Association.] WELLINGTON, October 26. The Secretary of the Post Office has received a wireless message from the Chathams stating that the steamer Kahn sprang a leak at two o’clock on Thursday afternoon, when approximately fifty miles west of the Island, during a heavy south-west gale. Water put the fires out at two o’clock on Friday morning. It was impossible to launch the boats owing to tho heavy sea. By strenuous efforts, after the weather moderated, the crew managed to get the water low enough to permit the fires to be relighted, and the ship got under way again at four on Friday afternoon. She reached Wbangaroa at noon on Saturday, where the vessel was beached in a sinking condition. The passengers and crew and the mails are safe. »'
