(Abridged from Press Association.) HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES. Monday, October 6. The House met at 7.30 p.m. Mr Massey gave notico of his intention to introduce the Expeditionary Forces Voting Bill. The Hon W. Nosworthy gave notice •of hia intention to introduce the Dairy Industry Act Amendment Bill. The following Bills were introduced and read a first time:—Betterment (No. 2) (Mr M’Callum), Wairoa Harbour Board Empowering and Loan (Hon W. D. S. MacDonald, for Sir John Findlay), Taieri Land Drainage (Mr Soott). The report of the Marine Department was laid on the table. The Minister, in reply to various speakers, said the Cabinet had agreed to the appointment of a harbour engineer, and the position was being .advertised in England and America. _ He recognised that Government nominees on Harbour Boards were doing excellent work, but he did not think it fld* visable that the Government should attempt to influence the policy-of a board through its nominees. He recognised the value of yachting, but he thought the Government could better spend money on plaoes of safety for fishing boats than for boat harbours for yachts. Regarding lighthouses, it was the polnpr of the Department to erect one first- . class and two secondary lights each year, but on the whole he thought the coast was as well lit as any part of the world* The following Government Bills were introduced and read a first time:—Fishing Industries, Public Health Aon Amendment, Post and Telegraph Act Amendment, Discharged {settlement Act Amendment.
