ASHBURTON CLUB. Tho annual meeting of the Ashbnrton Lawn Tennis Club was hold on Wednesday ovsning, Mr F. W. Seldon presiding. The annual report stated that durinß the past season competitions wore he.'d for prizes "enorously donated by tho president (Mr Hugo Friodlander), the winners boinr:— Ladies' doubles. Mrs Kennedy and Miss Bnddington; combined doubles, Mr H. Christian and Miss Black. The balance-sheet fhowed a credit balance of £35 4a 3d. The report and balance-sheet woro adopted. Officers were elected as follows:—President, Mr Hugo Friedlander; vice-presidents, Mossro R. 801 l and T. Bullock; secretary and treasurer, Mr H. L. Seldon; committee, Messrs A. H. Masson, H. Cooko, C. Wateraton, F. W. Seldon, D. Friedlander, H. A. Boddington and D. M. Montgomery: auditor, Mr C. Watcrfton; delegates to Canterbury Lawn Tennis Association, Miss G. 11. Buchanan, and E. J. Taylor; delegates to Asliburton Sports Association, Messra F. W. Seldon, D. Friedlander and D. M. MonV gomery. Eight new members wero elected. It was decided to hold tha opening day on October 29, when the usual competitions will be held. _ ' Tho accretary was instructed to .write to Mr 0. H. Buchanan thankinjr him for bis services to tho club, and nxpressinE regret at his departuro from Ashburlpn. Votes of thanks wcro passed to the chairman and the retiring secretary. NEW BRIGHTON CLUB. The twenty-fifth annual meeting of the New Brighton Lawn Tennis Club was heid in the Borough Council Chambers. The president (Mr R. C. Bishop) occupied the chair, and there was a largo attendance of members The annual report and balance-sheet woro adopted, on the motion of the president, who congratulated the members on the very satisfactory position of tho club. The election of officers for the ensuing year resulted o« follows:—Patron, the Rev H. H. Mathias; president, Mr R, C. Bishop: vioe-prosidents, the Hon G. W. Russell M.P.. Dr W E. Stevens, Messrs F. Kibblewhite (Mivtor), Gilbert Jaekson, C. H. Opie, T. Bullock. W. G. Lockwood and J. Checklev; honorary secretary and treasurer, Mr R. Browning; assistant secretury. Mi F. J. Hutchison; delegate to Canterbury Lawn Tennis Association. Mr R. Browning; management committee, Mrs Browning. Misses Q oratt and M'Creo. and Messrs G. W. Bishop. J. Boßomworth. A. Pratt and P. 6. Eames. Mr Gilbert Jackson was reappointed solo seloctor and handicapper for the ensuing year. , , The date for tho opening of the season was left in the hands of tho management committee. . , Tho question of granting visitors the übc of th* courts on payment of a nominal lee was discussed at length, and it was resolved: —" That visitors be allowed to uso the courts on payment of 5s each per month but that <.uch concession does not include the uso ol th' courts on Saturday afternoons. The matter of entering teams for the association's interclub competitions was discussed, and was subsequently referred to tho management committee with power tp act. Appreciative reference was made to «no fact that Mr R. C. Bishop had held tho position of president since he inception of th» club, he hav ng personally helued to lay down the first court.' SUMNER TENNIS AND CROQUET CLUB. A meeting of the committee of tho Sumner Tennis and Croquet Club was bold last •night, when Dr Gosset presided ovor a good was elected president of. the club, and Mr O. B. Claytom waß appointed honorary secretary. ... . •„_ It was decided to enter jnmor and senior croquet teams in the Canterbury Croquet Association's flag competitions. • Tho question of top-dressing the tennifi courts was loft in the hands of Dr Slater and Mr Clayton. , , Complete arrangements were made for opsins the season, on October 11. The question of laying down a new fullsize croouet green was left in the bandss of Messrs C. R. Hamilton and E. A. Johnson. Twelve new membera wero elected. KAIAPOI CLUB. The Kaiapoi Tennis Club opened ita season at the courts in Darnley's Square yesterday afternoon. There was a large attendance of members and their friends, and friendly games were played. The president o? the club, Mr L. B. Evans, provided a very enjoyable afternoon tea.
