Mr H. 0. Revell, president of the Kaiapoi branch of the New Zealand Labour Party, has decided to contest the Kaiapoi mayoralty. Mrs Jane Elyy, 78, Byron Street, Sydenham, has received word that her son, Corporal H. L. Eivy, is returning by the Maheno, due at Auckland on April 20. Mr John Payne, member for Grey I/jnn, who has been under treatment in Lowisham Hospital, has made rapid progress, and expects to leave the hospital in a day or two. Mr 0. H. Opie was unanimously elected chairman of the Technical ColJego Board last night, in plaoe of Mr Ceorge Scott, who is on his way to Creat Britain. Mr Opie will hpld office until the June. At yesterday’s meeting of the Canterbury Education Board Messrs W. K. virtue and W. A. Banks wore reappointed representatives on the Akaroa and Rangiora High School Boards respectively. Mrs B. Gilmore, 0, Western Terraco, Beckenham, has received advice that her son, Trooper J. Gilmore, is returning home on the transport' Kaikoura, which is duo to arrive at Wellington on April 17. At yesterday’s meeting of the Canterbury Education Board it was decided to affiliate with the Canterbury Progress League, Mr W. A. Banks being appointed the board’s representative. It was decided to subsenbe £lO to tho league’s funds. The Education Board yesterday resolved to express its appreciation of the services rendered by Mr T. Stout (Wnikan), Mr A. Linsay (Albury), Miss E. Owens (Ngahore) and Mrs A. Cble (Sydenham), who are all teachers who were retiring on superannuation. At its monthly meeting yesterday tho Canterbury Education Board"decided to recommend to the Minister of Education the appointment of Mr Leonard b. Pegley as vice-principal -of tho Normal Training College. Mr Pegley has for the past twelve years been head master of the Hastings District High School, with seventeen years’ previous experience. At the meeting of the Ashburton County Council yesterday tho following resolution was passed That this council notices with regret tho death of Private Dudley Harrison, son of Councillor H. J. Harrison, who has occupied a seat on the council for many years. The deep sympathy of the counw tendered to Mr Harrison and his family in their sad bereavement.” Mr A. V. King, postmaster at Lyttelton, who retired on superannuation on Thursday, was farewelled by the Lyttelton office staff and presented with a silver rose howl. Tho presentation was made by Mr J. Y. Cameron, senioi clerk, who, on behalf of the staff, expressed sincere regret at Mr King’s departure. Mr King suitably responded. Mr and Mrs King left by last night’s ferry steamer on route for Nelson, where they intend to reside. Mr Y. M. Beebe, who has retired ftom tho position of managing director of Crystal Palace, Ltd., left for a brief visit to the North Island by last! night’s ferry steamer. Yesterday afternoon Mr Beebe was presented by the front of the house staff of Crystal Palace Theatre with a handsome suit ca%o, the members of the Crystal Pallace orchestra presented him with a silver oigaretto case and a silver-mounted 'walking stick, as a slight mark of the esteem in which he is held by the Crystal Pulane employees. The presentation On behalf of the /house staff wa3 made by Mr A. E. Young, and that on behalf of the orchestra was made hy Mr (W. £L Corrigan.
