Mr H.' H. Holland spoke on behalf of the Doctor's Subsidy Committee, and showed the difficulties that his committee had encountered in arranging for tho subsidy. Mr Holland urged the members to act at once, as tho matter was of vital importance to the community. Mir G. G. Newton detailed the numerous calls tho visiting doetorß had received while 'the epidemic was at i%s height from accidents, etc. (some of them serious). He stressed the -point that the county must have a doctor, and that the proper authority to provide it was the council. It wa3 agreed that the council should subr.idkc tho doctor if it was legal. It was further decided to immediately advertise for a doctor in the principal newspapers, and that a special meeting of tho council should bo held on January 4 to consider applications. Tho sum of £i> was contributed to tho Navy League. It. was resolved that the clerk should bo granted throe weeks' leave of absence. The tender of Me<s=r,i liynn Bros., to shingle the Allanclalo road and the road leading to Miss Dodds's ■i'aoe, was accented. A letter was received from th*.
