LYTTELTON CASES.

SITUATION EASIER.

Tho auxiliary hospital at the Lytteiton Club was reudy to receive patients yesterday, the carpenters lent by the Union Steam Ship Company having completed the fitting up of the necessary sanitary arrangements. The sisters at tho London Street hospital reported yesterday that one more death had occurred during the night. The situation was, if anything, easier. The services of another Bister from tho Chris tchurch Hospital had been secured, and she had taken up her duties on Thursday night. There were no more beds available at that institution, but no more cases had been ro ported for admittance. No new patients were received for the Club Hall Ward during yesterday, which tends to prove that the epidemic is abating. It is probable that should the epidemic continue to diminish, the patients at the ward in London Street will he removed to the Lyttelton Club Hall, where all tho patients will be in ono ward, "under tho direct attention of the sister.

QUAIL ISLAND HOSPITAL

Motor and steam launches were busily engaged yesterday transporting bedding, groceries and cooking utensils to Quail Island, and when a :< Lyttelton Times" representative visited the quarantine station ho found a large band of workers engaged in putting on the final touches. Tho convalescent patients awaiting admittance were taken over there yesterday afternoon. Carpenters wero taking out tho dry rot planks from the flooring in the sleeping ward and also in the dining-room. Others were laying out the bed clothing on the lawns to air. Everybody was busy. The building is just above a shelly beach on the southern side of the island. On tho western sido a high hill, covered with fir trees which shelter the building from the south-westers. On the east sido there is another sandy beach, about two hundred yards long. The building itself is a spacious one. At tho entrance, on tho right, is the dispensary, and on tho left tho kitchen, which, however, will only bo used as an auxiliary kitchen, on account of the small range. Two other ranges are being fitted up in a. largo shed just to the left of the building. There are two lartro wards, measuring 18ft x 38ft, or 0000 cubic feet, one at each end of tho building. One will ho used ns a sleep-ing-room, and the other as tho diningroom. On the tot> storey there are two rooms which will be used as sleeping chambers for the staff, one for the mnlo volunteer orderlies, consisting of Messrs R. Law and L. Argyle, and the other for the matron and assistants, including Airs Horn, wife of Captain Horn of the Union .Steam Company, who has volunteered her services. The place seems to be an ideal one. Tho scenery is most pleasinsr. and a week cr two on the island should work wonders for the patients. Mrs M. J. Miller, volunteer matron and her assistants, over to the island to take charge this morning. Mr Henderson, caretaker of the quarantine station, has offered to supply the milk, and the Women's National Reserve the soup.
