FIRE IN HOSPITAL
• SENSATION-AT HOKITIKA. [l'iui Press Association.] HOKITIKA, Moyeinber 22. An incipient iiro was discovered in the Manson ward of the Westland Hospital last night at seven o'clock. A heavy gale was blowing at the time. The institution was crowded with patients, mostly epidemic cases. Some members of the female staff, with fcho assistance of two visitors, got out a line of hose, and succeeded in suppres- [ King the outbreak, which was coniined I to tile-roof. The felting,under the iron I had taken fire, presumably from a, | bpurk from an adjacent chimney. The ; lire brigade was called, but its services | were not required. The damage was not serious, and it was not necessary to disturb the patients. Considerable alarm prevailed in the town until it was kaown that the danger was past.
