PERSONAL.
Mr A. M'Carthy, who has been deputy-registrar of the Supreme Court in Christchurch for about six years, has been transferred to a similar position in Auckland, and will leave for that city soon. Mr J. Reid, Clerk oi the Court at Cromwell, has been appointed in his place in Christchurch. The funeral of the late Mr J. TSouper cook place at the Linwood Cemetery yesterday, the interment being private. Canon Bean officiated, and the pall-bearers wero committeemen of the Licensed Victuallers' Association—Messrs T. "Cotter, 0. Lange. T. Q. Fox and J. T. Sutton. The chief mourner was Master Noel Souper, son of deceased. Prior to the opening of tho fat sheep sale at tho Addington saleyards yesterday, Mr H. D. Macdonald (Messrs Pyne and Co.) mado reference to the death of the late Mr G- W. Clarkson. Everyone who attended those yards and who knew Mr Clarkson held the same opinion of him, that he was a good judge of stock, that he was perfectly straight in all bis dealings, and, in short, ho was a " white man." The speaker had had a great deal to do with Mr Clarkson in connection with stock transactions on behalf of his firm, both in buying and gelling, and he would bo ft hard man to replace. Mr F- H. Steel moved that a. letter of sympathy and condolence should be sent to the members of tho late Mr Clarkson's family. Mr L. Matson seconded the motion, and he, together with Mr W. W. Morton (Messrs Dalgety and Co.), endorsed Mr Macdonald's remarks. The motion was carried unanimously.
