GRAIN AND PRODUCE.

The showers of rain that are being experienced; will have a beneficial effect upon all classes ot crops, but a much heavier fall is required to thoroughly moisten the surface of pasture lands. The holiday has interrupted the limited amount of business that is passing in the grain and produce markets. There is praotically no grain offering, though oats are reudily saleable if any samples are forthcoming. Prime, bright oaisheaf chaff is still wanted for the North Island, where very cold, wet weather has been experienced and grass is backward. The stocks of potatoes in growers hattids are now getting into small compass. There is a scarcity of offerings, and the price very much depends upon the necessity of the buyer and the best terms he can make with t'-o scaler.- Tho price is more or less nominal, with a firming tendency, and may be quoted at £lO 16s and £ll at country staThe following are the prices paid to_ farmers at country stations, free of commission, soc'-i -xtra, except where othcrwiVe *»ate-1: Wheat.— Milling wheat* Government ppe.
