Yesterday's steamer from Wellington brought the North Island horses Nystad, War,pJane, Ermine, Mazama, First Salute, Arch Salute, Croesus, Detroit and Dusky Eve, who are engaged at Riccarton next week. Sasanof finished last in the Champion Plate at Trentham on Monday. His disappointing display came as a shock to many of his New Zealand Cup admirers, and he will require to make great improvement before he can be seriously reckoned with as a likely winner of the two-mile race next Monday. After the interval there was j, heavy thunderstorm. The work generally was unimportant. All the tasks were registered on the grass except six furlongs by Meltonio and Tabasco on the sand in Imin 21sec. Colonel 6oult went round in lmin 59 l-ssec. Gazique, with a very light weight, went a fast seven furlongs in lmin 31sec, Pandembs did four in 55sec, Metchikofi and Bingham seven in lmin 37sec, Fabriquette once round in 2min 2sec, Finhope four in 54 4-osec. Platoon beat Koiwi over the same distance in 52 1-5 «ec, Sir Ralph and Bloomine together did 6ix in lmin 20 2-ssec After the interval, No Mistake, Princess Charming and Gwenneth, in that order, did four furlongs' from a stand in 54sec. Lochiel Arch beat Marble Star and Hyllus over six in lmin 20seo. A numv ber of others also exercised.
