LIZA LEHMANN.

LONDON, September 22. The death is announced of Liza Lehmann, the composer. (Liza Lehmann (Mrs Herbert Bedford) ■was born in London, and studied singing under her mother and Signor Kandegger, and composition under llaunrilde at Dome, Freudenberg at Wiesbaden, and Hamisli M’Ounn in London. She made her professional debut as a soprano at a Monday Popular Concert in 1885, and from then till her marriage sang at the principal concerts of Great Britain.)
The death is announced of Mr H. D. Morpeth, Town Clerk, of Waihi, after a ' fortnight’s illness. Deceased, who was a member of a well known Auckland family, had been town clerk of Waihi since its conversion into a borough some sixteen years ago. He was a (popular and capable official. Mr Morpeth, who was sixty-threo ysars old, took a keen interest in all patriotic matters. He was the father of six sons, all of whom were soldiers, two having made the supreme sacrifice-
