A Wellington telegram states that the New Zealand amateur billiard championship will he hold iu Wellington early next month. At a. meeting held in the Riecarton Town Hall lost evening in furtherance of the Efficiency Board’s proposal to purchase liquor interests, the speakers were Mr J. Keir and the Rev J. J North. Mr North dealt with the Stato control issue, and said that State control hnd been exceedingly lucrative to the Imperial Russian exchequer, but had been disastrous to the Russian nation, and was finally abolished by decree of the Czar. In Britain, though recommended by sectional the proposal had been finally turnea down by the Lloyd George Government. In the United States the proposal was nowhere regarded as either an adequate or possible solution of tho liquor problem. Tho meeting carried a unanimous motion of thanks to the speaker?, endorsing the Efficiency Board’s proposals, and pledging its sup. port.
