NEWS AND NOTES. An interesting feature in connection witiutho acceptances for the three leading events at the Grand National meeting is that nearly all tho horses who played a prominent part a year ago are again eligible to contest the same races next week. Sleight of Hand, Sir Solo and Sit Fisher, who tilled the places in the Grand National Hurdle Handicap, are all on the ground and likely starters, as is Art, who fell a year ago. Master Strowan, St Elmn and Crib are expected to contest the Grand National Steeplechase, in which they liiicd the places a year ago, while the acceptors also include Merry Lad and Nita, who were in last year’s field. Parisian Diamond, second in the -Winter Cup a year ago, will not be on hand next week, but the field may include King Star, the winner, and Brambletye, who finished third, as well as Varnish. Miss de Val, Kiltess, Sir Agnes and Cardrona, who were among the unplaced lot last year. Riccarton stables are well represented in the flat races on the first day of the Grand National meeting. In addition there are enough local horses, engaged only on the second day, to make up a good field, tho list including Adjutant, Gleudower, Disdainful, Tip lip, Killjoy, Zuland, Eelair, .Pyjama and Kaminohe.

Tho New Zealand Racing Conference has received advice that the Judicial Committee of the Manawatu Racing Club, after further investigation of the Ibex case, hits disqualified -A- -Hall, trainer, for a period of live years in connection therewith.

RICCARTON TRAINING NOTES. Tuesday. There was a light frost overnight, hut it cleared off early, and tile conditions were very favourable for training operations this morning. The outside of the course proper provided first-class going for fast work. Disdainful opened proceedings by running five furlongs in lmjn 3- 2-ssec, moving freely all tho way.

Omnhu and Sardinia were companions in a six-furlong spin, which occupied Imin 19 il-osee. Dylans finished in front of Art at the end of nine furlongs, run in 2min 1 4-osec.

■ Thrace and higher covered six furlongs in Imin 19 3-osec, Thrace having a slight advantage at the finish. Boro did a working gallop over a muc, finishing over the last half-mile in 62 2-ssec. :•

Bedford was a little better than Warmtli after, running six furlongs in Imin 19 4-osec.

Derby Day registered an attractive performance by sprinting five furlongs in Imin 2 4-ssee.

Bramblotye occupied Imin 21 4-ssec over six furlongs, and Cardrona easily beat a companion over seven furlongs in Imin 35 1-osec. j-Jydrus, Good Hope and Kimbolton finished in that order over seven furlongs, the going occupying Imin 33 'l-osec-

Charley just bent Silver and Black over six furlongs, run in Imin 19 4-ssec.

Flectham and Mnjestikoff covered seven furlongs in Infill 33sec, with Fleetham slightly the better of the pair. Joannot sprinted half a mile in 53sec, and Prenez Garde did a working gallop over seven furlongs. Gamecock was going better than Adjutant at the end of seven furlongs, which they covered in Imin 33 1-osec. ’ Form Up, All Over and Volo finished in that order after running six furlongs in Imin 19scc. It was a smart gallop, and Volo looked as if he could liavo been a little nearer tho front. Sir Agnes and Tip-up ran six furlongs in linin 22 2-ssec, without being fully extended. , Sir Solo just heat Seville, with Yellow and Black a couple of lengths away, after running nino furlongs in 2min 5 3-osec. Pyjama liad a slight advantage over Belair in a half-mile sprint, which occupied Imin 19 4-ssec. Ascalapbus ran six furlongs in Imm

19 4-ssec, Phil May joining in over the iast half-mile and being an easy winner.

Gleudower and Jingo were well matched in a. spin over five furlongs, wnicli occupied imin 3 3-ssec. King Star was too good for Missouri after running live furlongs in lmin sscc.

St Elmn did a working gallop over a mile, Reformation and Nita following over six furlongs in lmin 24sec. Sir Fisher easily beat The Sapper over seven furlongs in lmin 3o 2-bsec. Collector did steady pacing once round the sand. Coalition and Waimai set out for a school over eight fences. Coalition soon drew away • from his companion and hold a good lead throughout, giving a fine exhibition of jumping. Waimai jumped well, but ran down all his fences very badly.

Don Francisco and Vasconia jumped two hurdles up the back in smart style. Captain Lock and Modditio went once round tho fences, shaping fairly well.

Sleight of Hand, Kauri King and Gluetanus were schooled over four hurdles. Gluetanus went off in front, but gradually lost his position, finishing several lengths behind tho other pair, who wero together at. tho last hurdle. It was a good bit of work. Wishful and Gladful jumoed four hurdles, both going really well. 'Wishful afterwards did strong work on the sand.

Sylva and Zarkoma went twice round the fences. They kept together all the way, and gave a first-class exhibition of jumping, with tho pace solid from start to finish. Taurehaua. jumped four hurdles, giving a creditable display.

There were fifteen final acceptors for the Australian Steeplechase, but no Now Zealand horses are included. The first acceptances for the Caulfield Cup include Desert Cold, Biplane. Estland, Bunting, Bee, Immortel, Kilflinn, Kilowon, Kilhope Killein, Perform, Kilmaine: and those for the Melbourne Cup include Desert Gold; listland, Bunting, Red Pennant, Bee, Finmark, Immortel, Arch Marella, Kililinn, Ivillem, Killeen, Kilhope, First Rain and Kilmaine.

At the annual meeting of tho Victoria Racing Club the chairman stated ahat the club had donated £23,009 'to patriotic funds.

ADDINGTON TRAINING NOTES. 4 Tuesday. The race track was open at Addington this morning, but trainers could not use close up to the rails, as that portion was being harrowed and got into order after the heavy rains mid snow. The part of the track on whica the horses worked seemed somewhat hard. There was a fair number of speota-

tors, but nothing of a sensational nature was witnessed, most of the trainers confining, their work to useful pacing and working, without ithorougnly expending their horses. Berry sprinted Our Chum over several half-miles. He is a msy worker, ana did not go impressively. He will bo ridden in his races next week by it. Humphreys. The Kaikoura trotter, Peter M’Millan, was given a lot of slow \vork in saddle, interspersed with short sprints. He trotted solidly, but did not show a great deal of speed. Capriccio was jogged over several circuits, after which she was sent over half a mile at nearly her best speed. .Mushroom and Red Bell, both in saddle, worked together in patches. The former went particularly well, winding up with a fast half-mile by himself.

Mystic was sent over nearly two miles, but she has not been up long enough'to ho seen at her best. Harold Wilkes, wjho has recently been purchased by R. Humphreys, was confined to jogging. work. E. M’Dermott rode Silver Quick over a mile, but the speed was not turned lull on. Admiral Wood and Trix Pointer were given a serviceable work-out over a mile. Admiral. Wood looks particularly well, and seemed anxious to go faster Reta Peter trotted two miles in harness at a sound pace, and went throughout in her best form. Agatlios, with A. Hendrickson in tho sulky, paced .a mile and a half. He went very fast in the early part, and was pulling hard all the way, the workout being easily the best of the morning. He looks in rare condition. Cora Dillon was worked over two miles. Tile pace was not fast in too early part, but she came home in good style, pacing very soundly. Pax (in harness) and Treasure Seeker (in saddle) did a useful work-out over a mile.

Agnes Gfief (in saddle) was given some short sprints, but did not go up to her best form.

Rod Heather, looking very well, trotted a mile in attractive style, without ■being sent at his hast speed. Gipsy Grand was given several sprint 3 without the hopples.

A number of other horses did useful tasks over different distances.
