Tho Kowhai, acoording to latest advices, is waiting outside Greymottth to cross the bar as svon as it is workable. She will load coal for Lyttelton. The Westralis. arrived in Lyttelton yesterday morning from Wellington. The vessel will proceed to Dunodin and Bluff this evening, and it is expected that she will sail from the latter port on Wednesday for Melbourne. Tho Te Anau arrivod at Port Chalmers on Sunday with the Counters of Anglesea in tow. No advice has boon received yet of the arrival of the brigantfEo Aratapu at Melbourne. The vessel is now a month out from New Zealand.

The Putiki was expected to be taken up on the Wellington patent sip on Friday for survey and overhaul, which will take about ten days. A new propeller, specially designed by Messrs M'Gregor and Co., of Dune. eclin, was due in Wellington by tho John on Saturday, which is to bo fitted to the Putiki. The work of discharging the- coal on the Kini had to he s'opped at 7.30 on Saturday morning owing to the westerly wind raising so much coalduat. It was hoped to "restart discharging at 1 p.m., but the work could not be proceeded with. The Kinl-'s departure l for Wes'port has therefore been delayed until this evening. Tho Kapuni. which carao off the slip on Friday morninrr loaded Pntea and Wellington carro on Saturdav, ard sailed later. The Monowai, which returned from Dunedin yos'erday, will leave for Napier direct this evening on the arrival of the 7.20 train from Christehttrch. THE MAORI. The ferry steamer Maori anchored in the stream at Ly.tOitun on Satuiday morning at; 9.40. Her anchor was hoifted again at 6.30, just as a strong westerly wind started to riso, which increased with such raplflity that the vessel found it extremely difficult to get through the moles, the wind carrying her out of her courso in the direction of the Heads. She finally reached the inner harhour at 7.10. The captain made several unsuccessful attempts to bring tho vessel alongside No. 3 wharf. The tu* Lyttelton, seeing the vessel in difficulties, went to her assistance, and helped to'ber.h heir, tho operation taking from 7.10 to 9 a.m. In conversation with a representative of tho " Lyttelton Times," Captain Manning stated that it was the most solid westerly wind ho had encountered at Lyttelton since ho had been engaged on the ferry service.
