FIRE ON DEFENDER.

VESSEL A TOTAL LOSS

The Marino Department is now investigating the destruction of th© Defender and a Magisterial inquiry will lie held, but as the vessel is a total loss it is probable that the preliminary inquiry! will be dispensed with. The vessel is burned to the water's edge. She was valued at'about £SOOO, but particulars as to insurance are not obtainable yet.

Apart from the loss of the vessel, winch is a serious matter at the present time, 1132 cases of motor spirits were destroyed.
