BRITISH SINK CRUISER VINDICTIVE INSIDE HARBOUR.
LOCAL FIGHTING IN FRANCE.
WESTERN FRONT
In local fighting the French improved their positions near Locre. North of Albert tho British repulsed enemy attacks. There has been considerable aerial activity.
RAID ON OSTEND
To complete the blocking up of the entrance to Ostend, the obsolete cruiser Vindictive was sunk between the piers on May 9, under the direction of Vice-Admiral Keyes. The entrance is not fully blocked, but it is thought that the silt will assist to render the harbour impracticable for submarines and destroyers. The British casualties were slight.
