SHIPPING NOTES Tim ferry steamer Maori wa-5 late in a? livin'' at Lytte.ton yesterday morning, having encountered a strong south-wester.y ra.e and a very heavy sea. It was 9.15 before she got alongside tho wharf. A whole holiday was observed by the waterside workers yesterday, consequently the Storm, Calm and Corinna were unab.o to sail. The American Concrete Pipe and Shipbuilding Company has been organised at Tacoma. Work will l:o started soon on the first 3591 tons reinforced concrete ship at Redwood City., California, but the Taccma plant will be the first in tire North-west to undertake thins of this kind. It is said a concrete ship can be built at a grear saving over a steel vessel and in less than one-half the time. The. Orepuki is due here to-morrow, and is timed to sail on Wednesday for Greymouth. The Putiki is expected in Lyttelton on Wednesday from Dunedin, and will tail the same night for Wellington. The Kara, which arrived in port yestorclav, will sari for Wellington this evening, where she will load for Mussel Beach. The Storm will leave this evening for Dunedin. She w : ’l tail from Dunedin tomorrow for Timaiu and Lyttelton.
