POUT LEVY REGATTA. ! A meeting of the Ladies’ Committee in connection with the Port Lory regatta was held in the schoolroom on Friday evening, with a view to making arrangements for luncheon tents, stalls and'competition stalls. Mrs H. Field was elected president of the committee and Miss O’Donnell secretary. RED CROSS GARDEN PARTY. ’ A very successful garden party was held on the estate of Mr Ortoif Bradley, Chartoris Bay, on Saturday afternoon. The function, which was organised by the residents of the hay, who supplied the refreshments and produce for the stalls, was well patronised by residents of tbe surrounding district! and Lyttelton, there being about 200 present. Several sports competitions were held. An obstacle driving competition was won by Mr Plunket, Captain Hunter being second and Mrs Crawford third. There was a plentiful supply of produce and live stock. It is estimated that the proceeds will total £6O. SEAMEN’S INSTITUTE.

On the invitation of the president of the Lyttelton Seamen’s Institute an “At Home” was given on Saturday afternoon, with the object of„entertaining the members of the United Ladies’ Guild for the > services which they, have rendered during the past year in supplying comforts for the Navy and merchant seamen, as well as providing woollen clothing, which has been forwarded to London for mine-sweepers and torpedoed crews. Another object of the function was to brine before members of the guild the coming celebration of the centenary of the British < and Foreign Seamen’s Society. The pre-i sidenfc, Mr F. W. Anderson, gave a short address, in which he"pointed out the many advantages that the institute presented to sailors, and referred to the good work that members of tho fuild had done. Two thousand comfort ags had been sent to the Navy, and sailors in port had been entertained. During the afternoon musical'-items were contributed by Madam Gower Burns, Mrs Y. Livingston and Mr R. Blackley. ’ The missioner made fourteen visits to ships in the port during the week, with the result that about 120 visits have been made to tbe institute bv officers, seamen and boys. Three social evenings have been held with an average attendance of thirty, and there have been Gospel services with an attendance of thirty at each. Several bundles of books and magazines, as well as numerous parcels of fruit, have been received. Thirty officers have made use of the rooms. A donation of £l7 2s has been made during the week bya ship's crew towards tho funds of the society. Ten comfort bags have been served out.
