CANTERBURY CENTRE. A special meeting of the Canterbury Centre si the New Zealand Shimming Association tvas held last evening, Mt W. ,li. D. Bishop presiding. Mr W>. Johnson proposed several alterations and amendments to the rules governing the competition for the Sir John Hall Life-saving 'Shield, and after a long discussion the rules were amended to road as follows: —“ (1) The shield shall remain the property of the Canterbury Centre of tho New Zealand Amateur Swimming Association and its successors, who shall have tho right to hand over tho control of tho competition to any club or society at their discretion and shall make or amend conditions from time to time. (2) 'fhe competition will, in future, be a senior hoys’ life-saving championship competition and will'be open to one or not more than three teams of four boys from any primary school, secondary school, or college, technical school or district high school in Canterbury, tli 3 members of which team shall not exceed the age of sixteen on October 1 each yoar. <3) The test of tho competition shall be the (Royal Life-Saving Society’s proficiency. certificate test as laid down in the society s latest hand-book. Judges who hold at least proficiency certificates shall ho appointed, who shall acres beforehand on a standard of points and adopt a concise scoring card. (4) The cornu e tit ion will be handed to the Canterbury Head Centre R.L.S.S. for a term of five years for control subject to the conditions’ following being carried out—(a.) i hat tho competition shall be held annually; (bj That the society pays the cost of awarding silver medals to each member of the winning team and instructor, and pave all costs in connection with the competition, and also arranges for and makes the presentation of shield, (3) The owner* of the shield ehall insure it with an approved office, (b) ine shield shall be won by the school or college whose team scores the largest aggregate number of points, and shall be heid by such winner and displayed in one of its classrooms from the day of such presentation •until the closing date for the next competition, and shall be under the caro and sole control of the head master of such school. <7) There shall be teama from at least two school* oompeting or no competition. AtWnson mired—'"That no dub affiliated tto the Canterbury Centre shall retain anv professional in the ranks for tho purpose of "teaching swimming or any other emolumonis.” The motion was seconded by Mr Eldridge and carried. • Mr L. A G. Rich proposed that the resolution passed at the last meeting of tho Canterbury Centre, namely, Tha„ the protest fee ledred by the Hiuemoa Club on behalf of Miss Batchelor be withheld be reecinded. Mr E. Eldridgo seconded the motion which was lost, • YALDHURST SHIELD. The annual competitioh for the Yftldhurst Shield for Primary Schools will take place at the Tepid Baths to-morrow evening, bine schools will be represented, Karaupi.(holders), Addington, New Brighton, East Christchurch, West Christchurch, St Albans, Lin wood Richmond and Woolston. The distances will be:—Bovs’ 50yds, 75yds and 12oyds, girls PCJyds, Tfcl&y boys’ 133 l-3yds, and diving ana JOOyds interclub.
