A piece of cotton-waste saturated with kerosene was placed beneath the Richmond Road school building, Auckland, and ignited some time after 8 p.m. on Wednesday last, states the “Herald.” Next morning an unconsumed portion of the material was discovered, and near it the boarding ,of the building was charred. The matter was reported to tl\y, police. But for the fact that the cotton-waste, on being lighted, was placed close to a tap, the water from which had left the boarding in the immediate vicinity in a more .or less soaked condition, the schoolbouse, valued at about £IO,OOO, would have been set on fir»-
