LINCOLN COLLEGE.

“ FARMERS’ DAY ” AND ANNUAL PRIZE-GIVING. yesterday was “Farmers’ Day” at Lincoln Agricultural College, and a large number took advantage of tho opportunity to inspect the college stock and experimental plots. More than average interest centred in the grounds set apart for experiments in wheatgrowing under the care of Dr Hikfondorf. The stock was'in excellent condition and reflected credit on the college management. The crops are in much better condition now than they were this time last year, and farmers were very pleased with tho condition of everything in and near the college. During the day tho visitors were entertained at luncheon by tho Board of Governors of the college, Mr H. A. Knight presiding over a gathering of about eighty farmers. In the course of his address the chairman stated that forty-five students had attended the college during the year, of which number four had finished their full course of training. Since the war had commenced, the attendance of pupils had shown 'a big falling off, and this was not to be wondered at. Farmers needed their sons at home as efficient labour was at- a discount. Another thing that had affected the number of students was the fact that as soon ns a boy became of military age he enlisted. There were over 200 exstudents at tile front, many of whom had gained military honours, while thirty-four had been killed. During the year tho college ground had increased by 14.0 acres. The wheat experiments under Dr Hiigendorf were proceeding satisfactorily. Selections of cats had been started, but not' much had yet been done in this- direction. With regard to tho stock, Mr Knight said that the list of prizes gained at the agricultural shows spoko for itself. The college had always held its own in that respect. Mr Knight- then presented the prizes gained during the present year. Following are tho prizewinners :
