COUNTY COUNCILS.

WAIREWA. The Wairewa County-Council met at Little River on Tuesday; present—Messrs J. \. Chapman (chairman), J. F. Buchanan, AN. F. Parkinson, T. Feather, M. Cooney, J. O. Coop and G. Barclay. A report received from Mr T. Qnealy, Inc late clerk and engineer, was considered very satisfactory. The Prime Minister wrote relative to the taxing of the county on the recently increased valuation. MrJ. lv. iomplin supplied the council with further information on the proposed electrical retiematum of the county, and it was decided to arrange for a thorough canvass of tint district to ascertain what support was forthcoming Mr Wyllie requested that the formation of the road along the Ninety Mile Beae.h bo proceeded with. Tho chairman and Messrs 1 arkinson and Coop were appointed to make further inquiries into tho matter. It was decided to call for tenders for cocksfoot on the Toads or tho country and a so for the willow wood lynte along Lako l'orsyth Road. On the motion of Mr 0. Barclay it was decided, to erect public notice boards in different parts of the county. On Mr T. Feather’s recommendation it was agreed that the stone fords on the Kinloch roads should be replaced by culverts. Mr M. Cooney gave notice of niotion to move at the next meeting of tho council for alterations to be made in the motor by-law regulations. EYRE. At a meeting of the Evrc County Council, there were present—Messrs R. Evans, A J Tticli J. H. Power, R. Ward, C. M’lntosh and.F, G. Ilorrell. Mr F. G. Horrell was elected chairman for the ensuing Rhodes, Ross and Godby, solicitors, wrote regarding tho encroachment of tho river Eyre on the property of Mr Bowers, Sasby, West Eyre ton It was resolved that'the council should grant the iossco a subsidy of pound for pound for work done in the river Eyre adjoining tho property. Mr G. L. Donaldson wrote asking tho council to form committee to help to raise JEIOOO in North Canterbury for Salvation Army war work. It was decided to reply that, although tho council lias every sympathy with ,the object, it. cannot see its way dear to form a committee to collect for the purpose mentioned. It was resolved to ascertain if the Rangiora County Council had any objection to the boundary road, Femside being vosted in tho Eyre County Coimcil 11 was decided to visit Coutts’s Cutting and ascertain the best way to copo with the growth of willows in and on the banks of the, cutting. It was resolved to approach tho Railway Department and the owners of the north cud of Section -168 and ascertain if it is possibie to procure enougu lujid to make a OGlt road to the freezijog "Tt was resolved that the assistance asked bo givon to persons on the banks of the rivor Eyre to protect their properties from flood nea- the two-chain road, it was resolved that G. Gray bo granted the ease of Reserve 363. West Eyreton. J. M. lodd wrote objecting lo tho willows being cut on tho banks of Coutts’s Cutting adjoining his nroporty unless they , were cut'on the opposite side of the cutting at tho game time. A deputation waited on tho council to ascertain if thoro was a. possibility of getting a new bridge at Cherry's Ford, in a straight line with the road, *as the present bridge and approaches are dangerous, ll was decided that the council should attend to tho matter at its earliest convenience. Messrs F. G' Horrell and J. H. Power were appointed a Finance Committee. Tho following niotion was passedm "That this council place on record its appreciation of the. many and valued services rendered to the country by Mr Pi. O. Dixon as a member of the Eyreton Road Board for. eleven years and the Evre County Council for six years, and, on behalf of tlio ratepayers, tho counoil ask him to accept their heartfelt thanks.” Accounts amounting to £319 7s lid were passed for paymont.
