Mr J, H. C. Bond, general traffic manager to the Union Steam Ship Company, was a passenger by the Mararoa from tho north yesterday. Sir Robert Stout, the Chief Justice, arrived from Wellington yesterday to preside at sittings of the rrison Board. The death of Sir Charles Bowen has reduced the number of life mem.bers of the Legislative Council to two—the Hon W. D. H. Baillie, appointed in 1861, and the Holt C. J. Johnston, appointed in 1891.
