PERSONAL NOTES

Mrs W. lviddey, 74, London Street, Richmond, has received news that her son, Corporal Frank lviddey, was killed in action on November 21. Corporal Kiddey, who was in his twentieth year, was born in Christchurch and was educated at the Richmond arid North Linwood Schools. At the time of his enlistment in the main body ,of the Rifle Brigade he was engaged with his uncle in the bicycle trade. He was a prominent member of the Sydenham League Football Club. He, was previously twice wounded in action. Letters recently received by Corporal Kiddey s friends stated that at the time of writing he was employed, as insructor m a machine-gun school in France.

Mr J. Bedelph, of Hanmer Springs, received a message fr.om the Minister of "Defence yesterday that his elder brothel 1 , Private T. Bedelph, had been killed in action on December 5. Private Bedelph was born at Dunalley, Tasmania, on May 24, 1879, and enlisted from the West. Coast of New Zealand, where ho well known among the sawmillers as a first-class hand and congenial companion. He left with the Main Body and was previously wounded on Gallipoli on March 27, 1915. Mr and Mrs C. H. M’Lean, of Mornington, have just [ received word of the death from wounds in .BYauco of their eldest son, Driver John M’Lean, 59th Battery R.B\A- Driver M’Lean left Dunedin for London on July 31 r 1915, and joined the regiment stated ,on li<3 arrival at Home. Prior to leaving New Zealand he was farming in Southland. He was twenty-three years of age. Second-Lieutenant Anthony Darlr.y Russel-Rendle, who was killed in action on . October 10, was the eldest sou of Lieutenant-Colonel C. E. llusselRendle, N.Z.M.C., of Ashburton, now Principal ’■ Medical Officer at Samoa and at present invalided to Auckland. Second-Lieutenant Russel-Rendle, who wrfs twenty-two years of age, received his earlier education in i England and afterwards was at Christ’s College and -at Lincoln College, subsequently entering a bank at Ashburton. Soon after the outbreak of war ho enlisted ,and left with an early reinforcement, joining the Second Canterbury Infantry Battalion, as corporal. Ho saw service at Gallipoli, in Egypt, and in France, and was recommended for his commission in the Imperial Army for gallantry on the field. After a period of training in England he was gazetted to the Ninth Battalion, Devonshire Regiment, in which corps his father was medical officer for some time. Altogether, ho had seen thirty-three months’ active service when liis promising career was ended. His younger brother, Hilary, is now in England in a training corps preparatory to serving m the Imperial Army-

Cabled advice was received yesterday that Private Andrew D. Fraser, of Rangiora, reported severely . wounded on November 29, was still dangerously ill on December 6, at the No. 10 casualty dressing station 'at the front in France.

Mrs J). Stirling, 30, Soutlibrook Street, Christchurch, has received advice that her son, Private E. H. Campbell, was wounded slightly on October 12, the second occasion, but remained with his unit. Private Campbell, who is thirty-six years of age, is a nativo of Dunedin, and previous to enlisting was a carter. He enlisted with the Seventeenth Reinforcements, and has taken part in numerous engagements Lance-Corporal Frank Wakefield Boucher, killed in action in Franco on October 12, was the youngest son of Mr John W. Boucher, ofStaveley. Ho was twenty-six years of age, and was born at llakaia, leaving there with his parents when about three years of age. He was educated at the Methven and Alford Forest Schools. On leaving school he went to work on Mesopotamia Station for. Mr G. Gerard, where he stayed for nine years, being at the time or his enlistment head shepliertf. Lance-Corporal Boucher left New Zealand with tho Mounted Division of the Third Reinforcements. Mrs M. A. Giles, 214, Springfield Road, St Albans, has received' news that her son, Trooper A. H. Giles, was wounded on November 28. Trooper Giles was born at Eyreton, and finished his education at Omihi. Ho is a son of the late Mr B. Giles. Ho left with the mounted section of the Nineteenth Reinforcements, and took part in the Egyptian campaign. Mrs S. Crowe, 29, Kinloch St Albans, has received a cable message stating that her son, Leonard Victor Crowe, has been dangerously wounded in the shoulder. He is twenty years of age, and was educated at the St Albans School, while for three years before he left with tho i Machine-gun section he worked for Mr J. Ashworth, at Sefton. This is the second time lie has been wounded.

Mrs Kruse, Frank Street, Pnpanui, has received a cablo from Base Records informing her that her son, Private Stanley Kruse, had a relapse and has been sent to Walton-on-Thames Hospital suffering from facial Swelling. Private Kruse was wounded on the face on June 10 and then sent to Brockcnhurst Hospital.
