Jackman and F. J. Holley (members of the committee) and Messrs T.. A. Stephens, XV. Scott and A. T. Robertson (trustees). Owing to his Having been drawn in the first ballot of the Second Division and accepted for military service, Mr. Inwood tendered’his resignation as secretary and as a 'member of the committee-

The chairman said he was voicing the opinions of the whole committee when he said that they were exceedingly sorry to loso Mr Inwood as their secretary. Mr Inwood had given an immense amount of time to the work, and had shown marked initiative; I* would bo a very great help to the committee if Mr Inwood could see his way to hold office a little longer. The Minister of Defence had stated some time ago that Second Division men would probably not be required to go into camp until tho end of March or the beginning of April. Mr Inwood said he was under orders to proceed to camp on March T, and as he had a good deal of private business to attend he was anxious to bj relieved as soon as possible. If the Second Division men were not to go into camp until the end of March, he would be quite willing to hold office for a while. The other members of the committeo all spoke highly of Mr Inwoods work. A suggestion was made that an extension ol time should be asked for, but the secretary said ho did nob wish to have any. appeal made on his' behalf. „

Mr Inwood xmdertook to hold office pending inquiries as to the date on which the first draft of Second Division men would be called into camp. The committee was asked to rerporb concerning the cases of several rc'ervists for whom leave was sought for the harvest- In each case the circumstances were carefully considered, and the secretary was instructed to convey the committee’s recommendations to tlie Commissioner for the Canterbury Military District. A letter was received from the Commissioner, asking the committee’s views regarding the providing of housing accommodation for rural workers and inquiring whether the committee considered married men preferable to single men Uoi* farm work. These matters are to be discussed at the conference of representatives of advisory committees to be held in Christchurch, and the chairman undertook to place the views of tho Ellesmere Committee before the delegates.
