RESIGNATION OF DIRECTOR, Mr R. Herdman-Smith, who has boon Director of the School of Art at Cnntorburv College for tho past eleven years,‘has resigned from liis position. His resignation has been forwarded to tho chairman of the Board of Governors of the college, and, it is Understood, will come, before a meeting of the board on Monday. Mr Herdman-Sinitil’s paintings have occupied a prominent place in art exhibitions in New Zealand since ho came to this country fifteen years ago. Ho studiod art in England and Europe, gained several diplomas and medals, and began his career as a teacher at the Leeds School of Art, England, where lie was appointed art master in 1891. For several years he was master of tho Municipal School of Art at Bath, England. In 1902 ho was appointed modelling and design master at the Technical School, Wellington. Three years later he • was appointed head art master at that school, and in .1906 left that position to take tho ono from which lie has just resigned. He was examiner in drawing to tho New Zealand University in. 1904, 1906 and 1907, and has been examiner in art to tho Now Zealand Education Department since 1904.
