PERSONAL NOTES. ' Mrs Ralph, of 96, Shirley Road, St Albans, has received advico from the Baso Records that her youngest son, L. 0. 0. J. Ralph, has been transferred from Franco to tho New Zealand General (Hospital at Brockenhurst, and that he is improving. Mrs C. Pluck, of Rakaia, has received Word that her son Private Henry James Pluck, who was recently reported wounded and gassed, is now reported seriously gassed. Mr J. Forrester, Burnett Street, Ashburton, has been advised that his son Gunner Forrester, who was recently reported wounded, has been admitted to Brockenhurst. Hospital.

News has been received that Sergeant Hugh Cameron has been admitted to Walton-on-Thames Hospital suffering from trench fever- Sergeant Cameron left New Zealand with tho Eighth Reinforcements, and has been on continuous active service ever since. 'Ho is tho youngest son of the lato J. r.nd E. Cameron, of Otarama and Papanui.

Cablo advico has been received by Mr and Mrs 11. Miles, of Charles Street, Kaiapoi, that their son. Private F. Miles-. _ is dangerously ill with cerebro spinal meningitis in a military hospital. * Detective Eade, of Christchurch, has received word that his son, Sergeant Eado, formerly of the staff of the National Bank, has been reported as removed to Crdford Military Hospital, England, suffering from a fracturod ami.

Advice was received a few days ago that Lance-Corpora 1 Alfred James O'Neill, fourth son of Mr B. O'Neill, of Daniel's Road, Papanui, was killed in action in Franco on August 16. Mr O'Neill lias four other sons who have served or 'aro serving—Richard, who has been eighteen months in the. East African campaign (wounded); Benjamin, on France (wounded); Joseph, in France;

and Walter, who fought at Gnlhpoh and was wounded and has returned to New Zealand. Laneo-Corpoi al A. J O'Neill was educated at tho Killinchy and Leeston Schools, and joined tho New Zealand Expeditionary Force, and was acting as a stretcher-bearer when ho met his death. Ono of Mr O'Neill's grandsons, a son of Mr W. Stackhouse, of Omihi, is also serving in and was wounded a short time ago. ' Altogether, Mr O'Neill has fivo sons, two grandsons and a son-in-law in khaki.

Cable advice was received in Christchurch recently of tho death in action of Private Robert Edgar Stevenson on August 8. Private Stov.iuson was born at Kaiapoi twenty years ago and was educated at the Papanui School... He ■was the only son of Mrs Stevenson, Colombo Street.

Mr P- Brown, Rakaia, has received cable advice that his brother Private Maurice Brown, was admitted to Brockenhurst Hospital on August 31, suffering from shall shock. Privato Brown loft with the Fifteenth Reinforcements. Ho has been twelve months in France mid has seen some heavy fighting. Ho went through the battle of Mcssines without receiving a wound.
