relief to recipients

A meeting was held in the Domiuion Buildings last night to furthor consider the administration of charitable aid by the North Canterbury Hospital and Charitable Aid Board v Mrs Mathieson presiding. Mr Bishop attended, and read a letter to the board he had prepared, pointing out that the present ration, allowance, apparently, was the same as that given before the holding of a Commission set up many years ago, and that tile Commission decided that it was inadequate at that time, when tlio cost of living was less than at present.. Mr Bishop also suggested that the board should bo aske.d for a copy of its balance-sheet for last year, showing the cost of administering charitable aid in the district, and for other information. The letter was approved, and it was decided also to write to other Charitable Aid Boards asking for similar information.

On the motion of Mrs S. Page, it was decided to endorse any movement for the increase of old ago pensions and widows’ pensions, in onler to bring them furthor into lino with tho increased cost of living.
