POSTING THE GAZETTE.
INTEREST IN WELLINGTON. [FnOJI Ot'R CORRESPONDENT.] WELLINGTON, November 24. A largo crowd of young men outside the General Post Office last night patiently waited for hours to see the Gazette, which they expected to bo posted, with the names of the men drawn in the ballot. Tho Government printing offieo was unable to turn out copies until midnight, thus the southern post offices will receive the Gazette a day later than announced. The waiting crowd appeared happy enough, most of the young fellows hiding any anxiety they might feel under the pretence of being keen to know if any of their friends had been "caught." To-day, though the _ list has caused many surprises, there is no evidence of any tendency to accept tho ballot calLto service in a resentful mood. The importance of a careful revision of the list is shown by the fact that fifty names drawn were those of men already members of the Expeditionary Force or deceased., Mr M'Carthy, the magistrate who &unervisod, the ballot, continued his watch over tlu» whole
process, correcting and checking, until the actual publication of the lists.
