MEETINGS OF SOCIETIES.
At tho quarterly meeting of the Loyal Benevolent Lodge, 1.0.0. F.; 31.17.,' held' inthe hall, Montreal Street, N.G. Bio. ther Eugene Allen presided, over a good attendance. P.G. Brother Hubbard wrote through the Loyal Pukehoke Lodge conveying* hia thanks to the lodge. An appeal was received from tho Red Cross "Our Day" committee. Several members rrpoke of tho help that was needed to carry on the work of the Red Cross Society, and promised individually Co support the appeal. The names of Brothers Peacock and Park, members of Expeditionary Force Reinforcements, were ordered to be placed on the lodge roll of honour f The trustees' action in investing £SOO in. the* war loan was endorsed. The TJ.F.S. Dispensary report for the half-year, which was submitted by the delegates, was adopted. A, debate was commenced by P.G.'s W. B. Browne and A. F. W. James on the question of social insurance in the Finencw Act, 1916 in respect to friendly societies. Several points were brought up, and it was decided to continne the debate next lodge night, Brother H. P. Le Pose, G.M., to be first speaker. The receipts for the evening were £lO9 16s sd. _ , The ounrterlv meeting of The Queens Own Lodg*, "No. 36. P.A.. was held on Monday ni<*ht when there was a large attendance, Brother J. E, Cooper, W.M.,-presiding. A discussion took place' on the clauses of interest to members of friendly societies contained in the Finance Act, hut as the information to hand was vorr indefinite, the> ruaftei was postponed until after the proposed publu meetin? to be addressed by a Government acluarv. Arrangements were made tor thi led™ Vocial in aid of .the benevolent; funds of the lodge. Tho receipts totalled £lO3.
