COMMISSIONER'S TOUR OF EX-

PLANATION.

WELLINGTON, September 14.

The Commissioner of Taxes, Mr Clark, will commence his South Island tour to explain the operation of tho new war taxation, at Inyercargill, on Friday. His presence in any town will bo advortised, and he will meet any taxpayer who has any difficulty in understanding the procedure in compiling his taxation returns. Mr Clark will bo-in Dunedin on Saturday, remaining till Wednesday, then going to Christchurch, where he wilt remain till tho 6nd of tho week. Tho Department's inspector will . pay visits to Oamaru and other South Island towns not covered by the Commissioner's itinerary. The 45 per cent excess nrofits tax is duo on March 1, with twenty-one days of grace, which may be extended if the Commissioner is of opinion that there would be undue hardship in enforcing th? total payment within that period. The 5 per cent additional income tax is due on the same _ date, while the ordinary income tax is due on January 22. and the Land tax on November 1.
