SUMNER WAR FUNDS.

TIHE PROPOSED FARM FETE. Last night a meeting was held in the Town Hall, Sumner, to consider Mr C. T. liTiddleton’s 'offer to hold a. farm fete at “ Sumner Vale." The Mayor (Mr J. id. Laurenson) presided over a representative gathering, and outlined Mr Middleton’s proposal. Mr H M. Garrick, representing the Burgesses' Association, said that, the time suggested for the feto, the middle of October, was, he thought, too near the date of the Fire Brigade demonstration, and would not be fair to the JJemorjstration Committee, which had been making preparations for seven months. Ho thought it would be better to hold the fete on some popular holiday. Mr J. D. Lawrence, representing the Richmond Hill Go’f Club, stated that the club would support the meeting in anything it decided upon, but personally he was of opinion that December would be a better month. Mr Raphael, president of the Bowling Clnb. said tho bowlers were prepared to help if required. The offer was a very kind one, but October was rather early. Mr R. Gibbs (Lifeboat Brigade), Mr W. G. Roberts (men’s bandaging class) and Mra G. F. Allen (Lady Liverpool Fund) also took part in the discussion. Finallv it was decided, on the motion of Mr W. F. Raphael, that Mr Middleton phon'd bs heartilv thanked for his proposal, but the meeting considered the time at present too 'short to prepare for the fete while the prospects in a Sumner gala appeared to promise better financial results. , Mr 11. M. Garrick then proposed that, in the interests of 'he H"d Cross Fund. Ladv 'Liverpool Fund, and Reception and Send-off Fund, a gala shou’d be h'-'d later on in the summer months. The motion was carried.
