The week-end sale of home-made foodstuffs, »fc, was in charge of Mrs C. W: Eeid and Mrs B. L. Lane, and realised £23 for the Red Crosß Sick and Wounded Fund. WATERTON. Tl;e annus! meeting of the Watcrton branch of the Red Cross Society was held in tho Library Hall on Thursday afternoon. Mr John Watson, late of Watcrton, but now of Askburton. presided, and about forty ladies wore present* Tho retirin? president (Mr J. Jaiae) submitted a report which' ihowed tho society to bo in a most flourishing condition fnd ready for all emergencies. ' The treasurer (Mrs Thos. Williams) reported that the receipts amounted to £W 6s Id. Of this amount £3.-29 19s lOd had been paid into the Ashbuiton Red Cross Society. £6 8s 6d represented incidental expenses and £l7 8s 3d was still in hand. Tho value of row material made up was £lßl and the members had collected £i Is !>d towards the " Guardian " Sailor Heroes Fund. The secretary (Mrs W. Dawson) reported that the number of workin? members was thirty-three at Waterton and fourteen at Loncbeaeli, and that during the year tho society had made i'Go articles. The reports were • adopted, and votes of thanks were accorded to the officers. Mrs J. Watson, on behalf of tho Ashburton society, gave expression to the very high value set on tho work of the Waterkra branch by the parent body. „_ Officers were elected as follow:—President, Mrs J. Jaine; vice-president, Mrs C. Muir; secretary, Mrs W. D. Dawßon; treasurer, Mrs Thos. Williams. Votes of thanks were passed to all who had in anv way helped the Booioty, also to Miss D. Jaine. who„had acted as secretary pro tern during the absence of Mrs Dawson. LITTLE RIVER. The Rod Cross workers of Little River continue to send out to the Christehurck Depot a satisinctorv- number of garments each month. At the weekly meeting hold on Thursday afternoon it was decided to make a special effort to augment the Red Cross funds bv selling floy.-crs on Tuesday, September 5, the montblv sale day. Gifts of flowers will be gladly received' at the Library en Tuesday morning. , Tho committee wishes to acknowledge with thanks donations in money and kind from Mesdamcs Rinaldi. G. The fortnightly meeting of the ScarcillMotonau branch of the Red Cross Society was held in the Town Hall, Scargill, on I-ri-rlay There was a good attendance, and the following articles were packed ami sent away:—o pyjama suits, 6 underpants, 2 bed jackets, 1 singlet, 2 waistcoats, i shirts. 10 pairs socks, 1 dressing gown, 90 swabs and a bundle of old linen. The members of the Lady Liverpool I-uud also met and sent, the following articles to the depot:—6 sanitary shirts, 10 hold-alls, 10 housewives. 1 pair socks. 3 scarves.
