FRUITGROWERS' ASSOCIATION
MONTHLY MEETING. The monthly meeting of the Canterbury Fruitgrowers' Association was held in tho Diiiics' Hall on Saturday night, Mr W. Wray presiding over an attendance of about thirty members. Mr F. W. Kirk, director of the Horticulture Division, Wellington, wrote, forwarding a copy of the new Orchard Tax Act which is now in force. The letter was received. Mr Longton delivered a short address en root-knot and its effect on trees.
In reply to a question as to whether the root-knot would spread from one orchard to another, ho said that it would not, but it could be carried by implements and even by a person's boot from one place to another. It was decided to recommend to the Government that tho regulations regarding the importation of trees affected with root-knot should be strictly enforced.
