Captain H. White-Parsons, harbourmaster at Napier, is serving with tho Navy in the Mediterranean Sea.

Tho Hon Dr R. M'Nab, Minister of Justice, arrived from the north on Saturday, and left for tho touth by tho first express. Passengers by tho ferry steamer from the north on Saturday included the Rev Dean Regnault, Messrs J. Craigie, M.P., H. Friedlander and W. Reece.

Mr D. C. Bates, Dominion Meteorologist, arrived in Christchurch from Wellington yesterday, on departmental service, which' will take him to the West Coast.

Captain S. G. Stringer, Assistant of Mercantile Marine, Wellington, and Mr A. Walker, arrived from tne north on Saturday, and spent the dav in Lyttelton on special business. They returned to Wellington by the Maori.

Mr J. R. Samson, officer in charge of the Discharged Soldiers' Information Department, arrived in Christchurch on Saturday. He is attending to arrangements lor liuding employment for soldiers in the- city. He will leave for Dunedin to-day.

Tho Hon W. D. S. MacDonald, Minister of Agriculture, is visiting Gisborna, in order to attend to departmental business and matters in connection with his electorate. This week ho will inspect tho Arataki experimental farm, near Xapior, and tho Wereroa experimental farm at Levin.

Mr W. A. Hislop, in a letter to the National Secretary of tho Y.M.C.A., nays that Mr Harry Holmes, for eight years secretary of the Wellington Association, has charge of tho army area in Franco, and is in close touch with the New Zealanders. He is very pleased to be connected with New Zealand work, and taker, a real personal Interest in the men from the Dominion. Mr Hisloo says: "I am sure his influence will count fcr much during his term of active service."

On Wednesday evening tho Marshland Cycling Club entertained Private T. Coleman, of Ladbrooks, but formerly of Marshland, at a complimentary farewell social in tho Public Hall. There was an excellent attendance. Songs were contributed by Mrs H. G. Jones and Mr Blackburn. Tho music for the dancing was, supplied by Mr H. G. •Jones. On behalf of tho members of the club Mr W. .T. Walter prcppiitcd Private Coleman with a set of military clothe? brushes and wished him gocd luck and a safe return.
